Paying for it now!

Evil scale. Evil Evil Evil scale! Why is that the more fun my weekend is, a higher number shows on the scale? I'm working on changing that.

Anyways, I've moved on.

I had yummy oatmeal (Organic quick oats, made with water), banana, almond butter and flax seed. Warmed me up and tasted oh so good.

Lunch is chili (we make a batch every couple weeks and freeze it in lunch sized tupperware), carrots and cucumbers.

Haven't decided on supper yet, I was home for maybe an hour this weekend (wake-time hours that is) so needless to say I didn't plan my meals or do a grocery shopping (that's on the TO DO for tonight). And, a walk with Lisa and Jenn (Jenn is who's cottage I want to this weekend and asked her if she wanted to start walking and she said yes!). Look at me, making friends!

Mares eat oats and does eat oats..

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you?

That always makes me laugh. Anyways. Oats. Last fall/winter/spring I LIVED on oats. At that point I was quite unimaginative and only ate these Now that the cool weather is back, I am reprising my favourite warm breakfast. But, I want ideas. I read lots of blogs where people eat oatmeal every day. They put soy milk, hemp milk, bananas, almond butter, granola... all the things I love, in one bowl. And it looks good.

If you could all let me know what kind of oatmeal you buy and a quick how-to if you have special ways of preparing it, that would be great. I'm sure I could go into the archives where people explained how they do it but I'll try the lazy way first (asking) then if that doesn't pan out, I'll look into it more.

And not to sound unwelcoming to any passer-byers from the States, but some of the products you buy, I can't get here. And when it sounds super good, I just get jealous and frusterated that we can't get it here. So I'm looking at my Canadian friends for this one.

My food day.. in pictures

I'm still rather impressed with myself in having visitors all weekend, indulging somewhat in dinners but yet not letting it turn into a whole day (or weekend) of bad eating.

Breakfast this morning (I woke up quite hungry so ate right away, with my morning green tea). A piece of whole wheat toast, a smidgen of almond butter and sliced bananas, a bowl of cut up mango and a yogurt. Turns out I wasn't hungry enough for my yogurt so I put it back in the fridge for later.

I had two avocadoes sitting on my counter ready for use and I cringed at the thought of them going bad before we ate them so I used one to make one of my favourite combinations, tomato and avocado with red onion, white balsamic vinagrette and a drizzle of EVOO.

After two short nights with us, this is the recycling bin full of wine bottles. There is still 5 full bottles on my counter and bottle of grey goose. Honestly my parents are bigger drinkers then we are. But their love of fancy expensive wines was a nice treat. I'll be glad when it's all gone, too big a tempation!

Something I'm trying to work on:

I can be such a "fresh" snob. If I know I've had something in the fridge for a little too long I normally just throw it out. I had bought fresh pineapple on Friday (at the front of the store, already cut up, I was being lazy) because I wanted to put it in sandwiches this weekend.
When we were in PEI my SIL had a gorgeus sandwich with a slice of pineapple in it! I was hesitant when she ordered it, but she gave me a bite and it was delicious! A little bit of sweet in a mix of savoury... yum. Anyways, I digress. I almost threw it out this morning as some of the pieces were looking a little less then perfect. But I remembered I was going out to lunch with some colleagues, so I had to eat a super low point breakfast. So I turned to my all-faithful cottage cheese and pineapple and even though the pineapple was a little too acidic, it wasn't bad enough to throw out.

= YUM!

So I feel better for two reasons:

1) I didn't waste food! (I heard on the radio this morning that 1/2 of prepared food in the world goes to waste, how horrible is that?)

2) I had a healthy low point breakfast!

I'm really trying to keep our fridge full of things we can use within the time before it goes bad. Too much food is wasted (and it's like throwing money out of the window). Whenever I used to go grocery shopping I would buy everything I wanted to have in my kitchen, now I make sure I go only with a list and don't get tempted (unless something is sooo tempting that my meal changes because of it)
